Interstage
Portalworks
Overview |
|
|
|
Interstage Portalworks is a front-end integration product
that organizes and integrates information and services located both
inside and outside a company to add new value to them. Information
and services existing on the intranet and the Internet can be
converted into portlets (components) and personalized for display on
a user's page or provided as Web services. This capability allows
the construction of environments for accessing information and
services (business portals) that can respond quickly to business
cycles which are becoming both faster and more global.
Portalworks can also link to the integration products
Interstage Contentwiz (content integration) and Interstage
CollaborationRing (process integration) to provide total support for
the integration of corporate systems. This support ranges from
content-level integration through to the creation of new business
systems that encompass in-house business processes, BtoB processes
and even services made available on the Internet. |

Speedy
creation of the information access environment |
|
Interstage
Portalworks makes it possible to convert a range of information and
services, including existing mission-critical applications to
components, and to create systems by selecting only those components
that are needed by each user. This can lead to dramatic reductions
in the total cost and the development cycle of a system. As
information tailored to the needs of users can be provided quickly,
users are more satisfied with the system.
|
|
In addition to page integration, information and services can
also be made available as Web services |
|
Information and
services that have been converted into components can be both
displayed on pages and also provided as Web services to systems that
require them. Information that matches the attributes of the other
party can be provided without needing to modify the existing system,
making it possible to create systems that are both flexible and have
a close affinity with external systems.

Features
|
 |
Brick
service |
|

Proxy
logon |
|
|
When
using components that require authorization, the information from
one authorization is stored and Portalworks then acts as a proxy
when performing subsequent logon processes. This allows users to
carry out their tasks without being aware of the authentication
being performed for each system they access. Portalworks supports
basic authentication and form authentication.
|
|
- |
Role
service |
|
|
The
administrator can make information available after determining the
range of component usage and the methods used to link components
according to the role and authority of the user. This enables the
user to quickly find and access appropriate information from the
huge volume of content available.
|
 |
Presentation service |
|
The presentation service provides user pages and Web services
using the information and services that have been converted into
components by the brick service.
|
|
- |
Personalization |
|
|
The
administrator can define the most suitable pages for each user. The
user can then personalize these pages by adding and selecting the
components they wish to have displayed.
In
addition, when the user page is provided as a Web service front-end,
it is possible to alter the information provided according to the
attributes of the other party.
|
|
- |
Portal view |
|
|
Information and services can be viewed from a portal page.
The user can have his or her own business page set up using the role
service and personalization.

Enhancements (for Windows: V5.0.1; for Solaris™ Operating
Environment: 5.1; for Linux: V5.0.1)
Note: Windows V5.0
-> V5.0.1 Solaris™ Operating Environment 5.0 -> 5.1 (Although the
version number is different, the same level of enhancements are offered as
per the Windows and Linux version) Linux V5.0 ->
V5.0.1
- Collaborative
workplace
In the past, business tasks were sometimes slow to
complete for the following reasons: - The person in charge did not
notice the change in status of the task. - A staff member needing to
contact the person in charge of the task did not have contact
details.
The collaborative workplace overcomes these problems by
providing task progression checking, awareness display, member task
management, chat, whiteboard, mail and other functions that ensure the
task will be completed quickly and correctly through the use of these
communication features.
- Starting the
Windows Application
In the
past, when you required access to the client's business application, it
was necessary to launch the Windows application using file explorer
because the application was not Web-enabled. Portalworks allows you to
launch the Windows client application from the portal view, allowing the
user to execute all client and server business applications via the
Web.
- Support for user
authentication has been expanded.
In the past, Interstage
Portalworks supported Portalworks' own authentication as well as the
user authentication functions of Systemwalker and Infodirectory. Active
Directory can now also be selected.

Notes
- When using the
following plug-in modules, it is necessary to purchase separate or
optional products:
- Database Agent

- The Collaborative
Workplace function and Starting the Windows Application function can be
used on the client environment of Windows XP/2000/Me/98/NT 4.0. (These
functions cannot be used with Windows95 or mobile terminals). Please use
Internet Explorer 6.0/5.5/5.01/5.0 (Netscape browsers are not compatible
with this function.)
- When using
communication tools such as Chat, whiteboard and mail with the
collaborative workplace, Windows NetMeeting 3.01 or later should be
installed on the client environment. Windows NetMeeting can be installed
using the Windows Update feature. (Windows 2000 and Windows XP provide
NetMeeting by default.) The correct operation of this function is
guaranteed only within local IP addresses on the same
intranet.
