Visit from Donald Becker and Erik Hendriks (8 October
1999)
On October 8, 1999, Donald
Becker and Erik Hendriks of
NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center
(GSFC) visited the Stone
SouperComputer at Oak Ridge
National Laboratory (ORNL). Donald and Erik, now at Scyld Computing Corporation, were a part
of the original Beowulf Project
which started in the summer of 1994 with the assembly of a 16 node
cluster. The project's scope and the number of Beowulf installations have
since grown at an increasing rate, particularly at R&D laboratories
and universities. Donald is probably best known for his work on device
drivers, particularly for network cards, for Linux. Erik has developed
a number of useful utilities for the art of Beowulfing.
