4.15. Templates

Templates are Java Server Pages (.jsp) or XSL files associated with content types (or content items) that specify which user interface components will be included in a given page of content. Creating a new template is similar to creating a new content item.

You can upload modified XSL and JSP templates for each content type. If you do not upload modified versions, the CMS uses the installation defaults. Content items use the templates assigned to the appropriate content type, or the defaults if none have been assigned.

To see what templates have been assigned to the content type, view the Content type details. The Templates section lists any assigned templates.

To see what templates have been assigned to a content item, select the Templates tab. The Assigned templates section lists all available templates for the associated content type. When a template is assigned, the Name and Label columns are filled in with the appropriate information.

It is not possible to override the content type templates on the content item's Templates tab.

You can upload custom JSP and XSL files by creating new templates for the content type. This creates a content item that stores the template information. Once you add this information, any content item associated with the content type will be able to use the template.
