This guide contains information about configuring and installing Red Hat Web Application Framework (WAF) and applications which extend it, such as Red Hat Content Management System (CMS) and Red Hat Portal Server.
First we discuss preparing your system for installation, including making decisions about database, servlet container, and JRE. You also decide if you are installing for a production or development environment, as covered in Part II Installation for Production and Part III Installation for Development.
After installation is completed, Part IV Application Configuration details how to configure each application in the Red Hat Web Application Framework. The guide is wrapped up with a chapter each on debugging and upgrading.

This manual covers the topic of installing Red Hat Web Application Framework, which is a non-trivial task requiring a technical understanding of the target platform. It is assumed that the system installer is an experienced systems administrator or engineer who is familiar with the following areas of knowledge:
Junior to intermediate systems administration experience on target installation OS. For Red Hat Enterprise Linux, being a Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT) is sufficient, as long as you have a database administrator assisting with the installation, and are familiar with the remaining topics.
Administrator or root access on the target installation machine(s), as well as a familiarity with installing and configuring software packages:
Web server such as Apache, including setting up virtual hosting.
Java® JDK or JRE and associated J2EE server environment.
J2EE servlet container such as Tomcat or Caucho's Resin®.
Installing and configuring an RDBMS such as PostgreSQL or Oracle8i® or Oracle9i® Database, or have a DBA with sufficient experience assisting.
