Follow these steps to set up the Remote Access Service (RAS) on a Windows 2000 PC:
Open Control Panel >> Phone and Modem Settings.
Go to the Modems tab and select Add...
Check the Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list
check box and click Next.
Select (Standard Modem Types) and Communications cable
between two computers, then click Next.
Select a COM port, then click Next and
Finish.
Open the properties of the modem you have just created. You may have to
select Control Panel >> Phone and Modem Settings >> Modem again.
In the General tab, set the maximum port speed to
115200.
In the Advanced tab, click Change Default
Preferences. A new window will appear.
In the new window's General tab, ensure that the Maximum
Port Speed is 115200and Flow Control is None.
In the new window's Advanced tab, ensure that Data
Bits is 8, Parity is None and Stop Bits
is 1.
Click OK several times to close all tabs.
Open Control Panel >> Networking and Dial-up Connections >>
Make New Connection and click Next.
Select Accept incomming connections and click
Next.
Check the modem that you just installed and click Next. It will
most likely be called Communications cable between two computers.
Select Do not allow virtual private connections and click
Next.
Click Add to enter a new user.
Enter the following details then click OK. Note the case of the
letters:

Make sure the new user is checked and click Next.
Just click Next for Setup the Networking Components.
You may be able to enter a name for the connection. Enter any name you like
and click Finish.
Open Control Panel >> Networking and Dial-up
Connections.
Open the properties of the connection you just created.
In the Users tab, make sure the Always allow
directly.....a password box is unchecked.
Click OK to finish.
Open Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >>
Services.
Make sure the services Remote Access Connection Manager and
Remote Access Auto Connection Manager are started and set to startup type -
automatic.
Close the Services window.
