Content Rendering Plugins Overview

Content Rendering Plugins (CRPs) are generally written by licensees to show customised content on the screen. They are used to decouple the client from what is actually rendered, so the client does not know what it is rendering. CRPs have minimal client side processing as it is all done server side which is more secure.

Until Symbian 9.5, the server side CRPs were only able to use GDI commands, but Symbian 9.5 introduces Open VG rendering to the capabilities a CRP writer can use. Live video on a surface is another new feature of Symbian 9.5.
