Serial Comms Server Plugins Collection

The Serial Comms server plugins provide appropriate emulation for RS232 serial communications through RFComm.

We will discuss the single Bluetooth component that provides a serial comms server plugin for Bluetooth, the Bluetooth CSY component.

This collection contains Symbian OS components for serial comm server plugins. For Bluetooth it is:

In addition to the Bluetooth CSY this collection also has a CSY plugin for USB and IrDA.

The CSY plugin component supports the RS232 DTE role but not the DCE role. Additionally, security and SDP are more easily set up and managed when using the RFCOMM socket for the DTE role. Also, since Bluetooth CSY uses RFCOMM internally an application developer would be better served using an RFCOMM socket to write an RS232 emulation service. Generally the Bluetooth CSY component is best used to support legacy serial communications (RS232) emulation Bluetooth applications only.
