4.7. Creating a Content Item

Anyone with the appropriate privileges can create a content item based on the content types that have been installed in your CMS. Refer to Section 4.12 Permissions and Privileges.

When you create a content item, you specify the content type first. This loads the appropriate information for the item, including the unique, basic properties that the author will fill in. These basic properties provide consistency across the CMS so that all content items of a specific type include fields for the necessary information and are displayed the same.

After you select the Content Type, the New Item screen is displayed. Enter the information on the screen to proceed to the Authoring tab, where you can add the rest of the information. You must select a workflow and add the page title for every content item.

Creating a content item is not the same as authoring a content item. When a content item is created, an object is saved in the CMS. This item is displayed on the Browse tab of the Content Section. However, content is not added until someone with the appropriate privileges goes through the Authoring Steps and adds it. Refer to Section 4.2 Authoring and Editing Content Items.
