The aim of this volume is to promote research and to provide information about the
status of technological accomplishments in productivity enhancement tools as applied in
manufacturing industry or research laboratories, and to examine the prospects for future
developments. The topics covered fall into five major areas: Manufacturing systems:
design, modeling and analysis for productivity enhancement; Manufacturing scheduling and
control; Robotics; Design; and Manufacturing applications.
This journal is dedicated to advancing the capabilities of engineering problem-solving
through novel and real world applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related
techniques. It recognises simultaneously that engineering problem-solving presents major
challenges to AI research and development and that engineering will gain from discovering
new and effective ways of applying human-based skills in formulating and solving problems
This volume contains papers presented at the CIM in Process and Manufacturing Industries
workshop, and covers all aspects including: modelling, analysis and design; intelligent
tools; systems and system concepts, and computer and software development.
The aim of this journal is to provide ideas and information involving the use of the
finite element method, including CAE, in professional practice. Subjects presented include
static and dynamic, thermal and nonthermal, linear and nonlinear analysis and design.
Areas covered include finite and boundary elements in heat transfer, solid, structural and
fluid mechanics and their applications in chemical, electronic, power generation, and
aerospace industries. Emphasis is placed on design-oriented finite element technology.
Contributions are welcome on finite element methods implemented on micro, mini and main
frame computers and their software related to solving finite element problems, as well as
computer-aided engineering methods, optimal design algorithms, programming techniques,
benchmarks, physical data processing procedures, and software reviews.
The articles will be of interest to all those involved in the multidisciplinary process
of design, including experts from product design, control system design, electronics
design, manufacturing, production planning, maintenance, quality control, service, and
marketing, etc. Enhancing knowledge on the development of new products and modifications
on existing products, whilst simultaneously considering product functions, features,
manufacturability, assemblability, reliability, and disposability. Consequently
facilitating rapid and cost effective development of initial designs which are close to
optimum.
This volume contains selected papers from the IFIP Working Conference on CAD/CAM, and
deals with the following subjcts: 1. Basic problems of the Integration of CAD/CAM. 2.
Integrated CAD/CAM Systems in Electronics and Mechanical Engineering. 3. Hardware,
Software and Methodological Support. 4. Technological Process Modelling.
This book contains both the papers and discussions from the IFIP Working Conference held
in Budapest. It presents ideas, developments and applications of knowledge engineering and
expert systems in the fields of architecture, structural engineering, mechanical
engineering, electronic engineering and software and hardware engineering. The sixteen
chapters (with their associated discussions) provide a detailed overview of this
burgeoning field in computer-aided design. Contributors are from the USA, Japan, Eastern
and Western Europe and Australia. Main Features: - Expositions of the state-of-the-art
developments of knowledge engineering and expert systems in computer-aided design across a
broad spectrum of application areas. - Application areas covered include architecture,
building, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering and
software and hardware engineering. - Material of relevance to both researchers and
practitioners in the field of computer-aided design who wish to understand the practical
impact of ``fifth generation computing''
The objective of this journal is to communicate recent and projected advances in
computer-based engineering techniques. The fields covered include mechanical, aerospace,
civil and environmental engineering, with an emphasis on research and development leading
to practical problem-solving.
