pointer to a page on general FE resources, including newsgroups and listservers.
The Mechanical Engineering Software Archive which is associated with the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers contains 5000+ programs with a particular focus on
scientific and technical subjects. The majority of the programs are for the IBM-PC
architecture but there are files for Amiga, Macintosh, and UNIX. The archive is divided up
into over forty of directories (e.g. FLUID - Fluids, compressible & otherwise,
including aerodynamics, MECH_ENG - General and specific engineering tools, CAD_ELEC - CAD
for electronics, both circuits and layout) each with a number of files. From the web
server it is possible to review the the content of of each of the directories and to FTP
files from the archive. A software search system to permit keyword searching of the
archive is under construction (9/4/96).
