What is EnterpriseDB?

EnterpriseDB is an enterprise-class relational database management system suitable for a broad range of commercial applications. EnterpriseDB is built upon PostgreSQL version 8.0.

PostgreSQL is an open-source relational database management system that grew from POSTGRES which was developed by the Computer Science Department of the University of California at Berkeley during the late 1980s. Led by Professor Michael Stonebraker, POSTGRES was created as the successor to INGRES which was also implemented at the University of California. Over the next two decades, POSTGRES received many enhancements and improvements as well as being renamed to Postgres95 and then finally to PostgreSQL as it exists in the open-source community today.

EnterpriseDB continues this long and rich heritage by further enhancing PostgreSQL to be even more suitable for enterprise-class, commercial applications. It is a true multi-user relational database management system capable of processing hefty volumes of enterprise data.
