To manage database instances using the Database Manager GUI program, the database instance that is to be managed needs to be to be connected to your DBM Server.
You can set up the connection to the DBM Server for one, more than one, or all database instances displayed in the list, depending on the performance of your system. Similarly, you can terminate the connection between individual database instances and your DBM Server to reduce the load on your system.
The required database instance must be included in the list of the database instances. To do this, proceed as described in Managing the List of Database Instances.
The State of the database instance is Not connected.
1. Select the database instance in the list of database instances.
2. Choose Instance ® Connect.
3. Enter the name and password of the Database Manager operator if necessary. You can save this information.
The Database Manager can now determine the current operational state of the selected database instance.
1. Select the database instance in the list of database instances.
2. Choose Instance ® Disconnect.
The State of this database instance is now Not connected.
The connection to the DBM Server has been terminated. The Database Manager can no longer determine the operational state of the database instance and thus cannot perform analyses of the database instance.
