The CMS is comprised of your content items, which is a set of information that can include other content items, links, images, file attachments, and more, known as assets (refer to Section 4.1 Assets. Each content item includes basic properties as defined by its content type, which include workflow, lifecycle, and template. Refer to Section 4.6 Content Type.
Typically, you assign permissions to different users, groups, and roles that let the members perform specific privileges. For example, users assigned to the Author role have permission to create new content items, while users assigned to the Publish role have permission to publish content items so that they can be viewed.
When adding or modifying content items, the CMS interface changes to use different tabs. You can:
View a summary of the content item, including name, title, and description, on the Summary tab. You can also see the assigned categories and lifecycle, workflow comments for the tasks (if a workflow has been assigned), and revision information.
For more information, refer to Section 4.2 Authoring and Editing Content Items, Section 4.3 Category, Section 4.11 Lifecycles, and Section 4.18 Workflows.
Enter and modify content on the Authoring tab. Use the Assign Categories step to associate content items with one or more categories. Refer to Section 4.3 Category. For more information, refer to Section 4.2 Authoring and Editing Content Items.
Set the languages that the content item will be displayed in on the Languages tab. For more information, refer to Section 4.10 Languages.
View and modify the details of the workflow on the Workflow tab.
For more information, refer to Section 4.18 Workflows.
View the publishing details on the Publishing tab. For more information, refer to Section 4.13 Publishing.
View all historical information on the History tab. For more information, refer to Section 4.9 History.
View the assigned templates. For more information, refer to Section 4.15 Templates.
You can also preview a content item by clicking the Preview link in the page header. The preview opens in a new browser window.
While there is no required order for initially entering information into the CMS, you cannot create a content item until you have added tasks and users to the workflow that will be assigned to the content item. Refer to Section 4.18 Workflows. You can create a new content item based on a content type without an assigned lifecycle. However, you cannot publish the content item until you have assigned a lifecycle. Refer to Section 4.11 Lifecycles.
