The post-installer is a utility that will set up your database. If you chose the Server Class option or if you installed the Server package through the Customized Installation option, the post-installer runs after the installation of the packages finishes. The post-installer will, if you agree, initialize a database cluster (see Administrator and User's Guide) in /var/lib/pgsql/data. If you do not want to use /var/lib/pgsql/data as your cluster location, exit the post-installer and refer to the Administrator and User's Guide to learn how to manually initialize a database. After the post-installer initializes the cluster, you can perform any of the following tasks:
Start the Red Hat Database now.
Should you choose to start the Red Hat Database, the post-installer will attempt to start the system, and the information about the start-up will be logged in /tmp/postgres.log.
Configure the Red Hat Database to start at system start-up.
If you configure to start the Red Hat Database at system start-up, the installation program modifies your system start-up files.
Run the regression tests. (This option appears only if the Regression Test package was installed.)
Choosing to run the regression tests starts a set of tests that validate the operation of PostgreSQL on your system. The regression test output is displayed on the screen. Information is also logged to /tmp/postgres.log and /usr/lib/pgsql/test/regress. If any regression tests fail, you can find information about the failures in /usr/lib/pgsql/test/regress/regression.diffs.
