The Red Hat Database Graphical Tools are installed as part of the Red Hat Database Client Installation on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 and Red Hat Linux 7.3 machines. If you have already installed the Red Hat Database Graphical Tools on the database server, you can skip directly to Chapter 3.
To run RHDB Administrator you must ensure the following packages are installed on your machine:
itcl
blt
RHDB Administrator also requires tktable, rh-postgresql-tcl, and rh-postgresql. The Installer program will install these packages automatically if they are not found on the system.
To run Visual Explain you must have a Java2 Runtime Environment (JRE) of version 1.3 or greater installed:
If you are running Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1, the IBMJava2-JRE package should already be installed. Consult your Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 documentation to learn how to verify that the package is installed or how to install it, if necessary.
If you are running Red Hat Linux 7.3, you need to obtain a JRE. You can obtain one either from Sun (http://java.sun.com) or IBM (http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/java).
The installation program does not check for the existance of a suitable JRE, so you can install Visual Explain before installing a JRE. However, Visual Explain will not be able to run until a JRE is installed.
Visual Explain also requires that the Red Hat Database JDBC driver package (rh-postgresql-jdbc) be installed. This package will be installed during the Visual Explain installation process if it does not already exist.
If your database server has the rh-postgresql-test package installed and you have run the regression tests, you will be able to perform the tutorials that appear later in this manual. If it has not been installed, you might want to install it now and then run the regression tests. Refer to the Red Hat Database Getting Started / Installation Guide for details. |
