Step 5 – Are You Already Using PostgreSQL?

Red Hat Database is based on PostgreSQL. Before you upgrade to the Red Hat Database, you need to export your current databases using the pg_dumpall utility. The operation of the pg_dumpall utility is explained in Red Hat Database Administrator and User's Guide.

If any postmaster is running, you must stop it before proceeding with this installation. Refer to the Red Hat Database Administrator and User's Guide under pg_ctl for details on stopping the postmaster.

You should then remove your existing PostgreSQL installation using GnoRPM or a similar tool. The operation of GnoRPM is described in the Red Hat Linux documentation.
