Step 6 – Are You Already Using Red Hat Database?

Upgrades from previous versions of Red Hat Database are not supported. However, if you have a database created with a previous version of Red Hat Database that you would like to use with Red Hat Database 2.0, this is an overview of the steps required to ensure a successful data migration:

  1. Dump the original databases to tape, to CD-R/RW, or to a hard disk that will not be erased.

  2. Remove your existing Red Hat Database installation using GnoRPM or a similar tool. The operation of GnoRPM is described in the Red Hat Linux documentation.

  3. Install either Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1 or Red Hat Linux 7.3. Consult your Red Hat Linux manuals for details on this step.

  4. Install Red Hat Database 2.0 using the instructions that follow, then restore your databases.

Dumping is done with the pg_dumpall utility and restoring is done with psql. Please refer to the Red Hat Database Administrator and User's Guide for more information on how to use these two programs.
