Setting up WINTAP

WinTap tool is used to provide the internet connectivity between the device and the workstation. WinTap is an alternative way to provide the emulator with an ethernet connection. It uses the default network connection on the PC for external connectivity. WinTap allows you to access the IP services running on the desktop, or using Internet Connection Sharing on the desktop's default internet connection.

WinTap is installed using the 'Symbian Engineering Tools installer' along with the TestDriverV2 .

Complete the following to install the WinTap using the 'Symbian Engineering Tools installer':

  1. For the PC side of WinTAP, check the Install TAP-Win32 (Windows Driver)

  2. For the device side of WinTAP, check the Install WinTAP (Symbian emulator driver).

Alternatively, use the new --commdb switch in the TestDriver. This switch provides the following 3 options:

    1. ON: This edits your current CommDB and adds WinTAP to it.

    2. OVERWRITE: This replaces your current CommDB with one that includes WinTAP. This file is located in the resource/wintap/TdWinTap.xml and can be replaced with a custom commdb file if necessary.

    3. OVERWRITE=a.xml: This replaces your current CommDB with a modified version of a.xml file which includes WinTAP.

OVERWRITE=a.xml: This replaces your current CommDB with an altered version of the file a.xml which includes WinTAP.

    4. OFF: This will not alter your emulator.

For details on installing the WinTap, see Installing the TestDriverV2. Common errors encountered while setting up the WinTap are outlined in Common errors
