Question: The format of the IMEI number returned from my P910i phone is different than the P800 and P900, why has this changed, is this
a mistake ?
Answer: If your phone was manufactured after April 1st 2004 it will have a different format of IMEI, this is because of a change in
the standard for IMEI numbers. The format for before April 1st 2004 is: 123456-12-123456-1
Where: The 123456 combination is the Type Approval Code with the first two digits (aa) representing the country code. The second group of numbers (12) is the Final Assembly Code and identifies the device manufacturer. The 123456 represents the device serial number. The last single digit (1) is a check digit
And the format for after April 1st 2004 is: 12345678-123456-1
The FAC value has disappeared and the Type Approval Code has been be replaced by a Type Allocation Code. The first numbers (123456768) are an eight digit number representing the Type Allocation Code. The dddddd and e numbers have the same meaning as in the old format.
