Question:
I have produced a SIS file which includes my application. However, when this is installed on a handset the user gets a warning
that there is no certificate or that the certificate is not valid.
How do I obtain a valid certificate to sign my SIS file?
Answer:
Symbian OS v6.0 introduced many enhancements to the Software Installation System (SIS) files used by Symbian devices to install
3rd party software. One of these new features was the ability to use a certificate to digitally sign a SIS file so that upon
installation it could be verified as coming from a given source.
The Symbian Signed program was launched in April 2004 to assist developers with obtaining signatures for use with their SIS files (replacing
the Sendo Check, Nokia OK and Sony Ericsson's TietoEnator programs). The signing is based on a generic Symbian root certificate
which it is expected will be carried by all subsequent Symbian OS phones.
