About Kubuntu

Kubuntu is a complete implementation of the Ubuntu operating system. Instead of installing the GNOME desktop, Kubuntu installs the K Desktop Environment (commonly known as “KDE”). Kubuntu aims to be to KDE what Ubuntu is to GNOME: a great integrated Linux distribution with all the great features of Ubuntu, but based on KDE. The Kubuntu team is part of the Ubuntu community and therefore adheres to the same ideals enshrined in the Ubuntu Manifesto: that software should be available free of charge, that software tools should be usable by people in their local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to qcustomize and alter their software in whatever way they see fit.

The Kubuntu team makes the following commitment to its users:

Kubuntu includes more than 1,000 pieces of software, starting with Linux version 2.6 and KDE 3.4. Kubuntu covers every standard desktop application, from word processing and spreadsheet applications, to Internet access applications, web server software, email software, programming languages, tools and of course, a nice collection of games.
