1. Device Preparation for Windows Devices

To monitor Windows devices, Zenoss requires a bit of setup. Make sure the following setup is performed.

  1. The SNMP agent enabled.

    This is done through Add/Remove programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> Management and Monitoring Tools.

  2. DCOM enabled for WMI connections.

  3. Optionally, SNMP-Informant to have CPU, Memory and Disk I/O stats.

To monitor a Windows machine, you will likely want to use the Zenwin component (set up and installed separately) to monitor WMI. To use Zenwin, please refer to the README.txt located in the Zenwin folder. If you do not want to monitor WMI services, adding a Windows machine is the same as adding any other type of device, you will just not be able to see the additional information available about the device through WMI.
