1.3. Updating PlaneShift

Updating PlaneShift is essential as the PlaneShift development team will continue to fix bugs, add features and add new areas to the world after release. You must run the updater after running the initial installer as there are likely to be a great many updates.

After this initial update, it is wise to re-run the updater from time to time. In some cases, changes will be made that will force you to run the updater, but you will be notified of this and will be unable to log into the PlaneShift server until you have updated.

1.3.1. Recovery Mode Updater

To run the updater without the GUI, use the -auto flag to the PlaneShift Updater..

This is useful when the updater is crashing, or if you want to schedule automatic updates. In addition, the recovery updater is often much faster at updating than the GUI version.

From your Start Menu, click PlaneShift Crystal Blue, then click PlaneShift Updater.

When the updater window appears, click Update.

You will see the progress of the updater, as it downloads the changes to PlaneShift since the installer was released.

You should run the updater from time to time to get the latest updates, and sometimes you will be required to update in order to connect to the server.

Now you should run the PlaneShift Setup program to configure your graphics and sound. See Section 1.4, “Configuring PlaneShift” for details.
