The emulator provides a full target environment that runs on Windows platform. It enables the development to be substantially PC-based. Only the final development stages focus on the target hardware. The only exception to this rule is for low level programming where target hardware must be directly accessed. For example: Programming for a physical device driver.
On a standard Symbian kits, the emulator is built for development with the Metrowerks CodeWarrior for Symbian OS tools (the WINSCW build target). Kits from Symbian OS licensees may provide emulator builds for use with other compilers.
