Question:
I have a new service and I want to add a status pane icon that appears on all apps when the service is running (e.g a VPN solution that all apps should be able to see when it is running, in the same way as GPRS)

Answer:
You cant.

Applications can select from among the device's pre-defined layouts, and can replace certain panes with their own controls for the current application.

However it is not possible to add system new system layouts or change the system panes in these layouts. You can change the app-panes in the existing layouts, but these changes are application specific.

Note : For UIQ there is only a single system status-pane, with no user-editable sub-panes. Therefore you do not need to specify any status pane.
