Open the Disks application from the dash.
Choose the hard disk from the Disk Drives list.
Click the more actions button next to the - button and choose Benchmark Volume.
Click Start Benchmark.
Click Start Benchmarking to test how fast data can be read from the disk. If the Also perform write-benchmark option is checked, the benchmark will test how fast data can be read from and written to the disk. This will take longer to complete.
