There are a number of ways to start an application in Kubuntu, but for the purposes of this quick guide, we will only focus on several of the most commonly used methods.
First and foremost, The K Menu allows you to browse and start applications. on The K Menu will present you with a list of application categories under the “All Applications” heading. Browse the application categories and on a highlighted application to start it.
You will notice various icons on the Toolbar that represent the applications they will start if you them. If you hover your mouse pointer over a Toolbar icon a description of the application it launches will be displayed. You may add your own links to applications that you use often to the Toolbar by on The K Menu icon and highlighting ->-> and on the application you want to add.
If you know the exact name of the application you'd like to run, you may on your desktop and select the menu item. From here you may manually enter your desired command and further customize the execution of said program by using the Options button. The Run Command window is also available through the K Menu.
