The pallet to the left of the canvas lists all of the patterns. They are organized by functional categories. For example, the Loop pattern is in the Control Flow group.
You can select any pattern from the pallet and drop it into a route on the canvas.

To drag a pattern onto a route:
Locate the desired pattern on the pallet.
Select the pattern.
While continuing to depress the mouse button, drag the pattern to the canvas.
When the pattern is in the desired position on the canvas, release the mouse button.

Tip Make sure the pattern is properly located on the canvas. Moving it later is non-trivial.
The new pattern is dropped onto the canvas and becomes the selected element. The property editor is set up to allow you to configure the pattern.
